The Nun (2018) Review

**SPOILERS**

I believe anyone who would’ve wanted to see this movie has actually gone and already saw it. “The Nun”, another horror movie installment to James Wong’s “The Conjuring” universe was released on September 6, 2018. Of course I went and saw it as soon as I could, because I am one of the many (few?) who have invested time into this saga. I went with a friend of mine (it is now tradition that we go see any/every horror movie that comes out in theaters) last Tuesday to see the much anticipated movie.

I was very much looking forward to this movie, the nun was a recurring character in the other movies, and personally I believe it was the scariest. So when I found out this movie was in production I geeked, like any sane person would. I had also been following all of “The Conjuring” movies avidly, like rewatching them three or four times, so I had a pretty good understanding of everything that was going on. My friend on the other hand wasn’t such a follower as I was. He has seen the movies (with me in theaters) but maybe like once more after that, so we went into the viewing with different mindsets.

I’m usually pretty good with scary movies, but there’s something about the religion aspect in scary movies that haunts me. Maybe it was because I was raised Catholic and there will always be that aspect that will grab a hold of my roots and make me incredibly uncomfortable. Or maybe it’s because when I was 6 yrs old my uncle forced me to watch “The Exorcist” (1973), and I’ve never been the same since. Either way I hate it. So this movie in particular, already had me at the edge of my seat, but my friend was totally fine. There were definitely a decent amount of jump-scares that I believe cheapen movies. The story had plot-holes I thought, like how did Taissa Farmiga’s character transfer the blood of Jesus from the flask into her mouth whilst underwater without getting a drop into the water? Anyway I was just really disappointed on how the movie  didn’t really add anything to the franchise. It could’ve been a standalone movie if it truly wanted to be. If you haven’t seen it, well I’m sorry for spoiling some parts for you, but if you’re considering seeing it at some point be prepared for a lot of jump scares, and eerily dark scenes.

Overall I’d give this movie a 5.5/10 because it didn’t contribute anything towards “The Conjuring” Universe, and the plot was just too basic. Bonus points because throughout the whole movie I couldn’t get out of my head that the Father played by Damian Bichir reminded me of my uncle. Turns out Damian Bichir just looks exactly like my uncle and thus I was rooting for him the whole time.

Anyway that is my semi-poor review of “The Nun”, please let me know what your thoughts are on the movie, the franchise, or just if you’re a horror fan!

-Much blessings to all,

The Journey Begins

Hello there!

First I’d like to start off by introducing myself. My name is Lorena, but you all can call me Florena (a nickname someone gave me and it just stuck). I’m a full-time student with oddly enough, too much time on her hands.

Here I will make a list of things that I like:

  • Fashion
  • Mangos
  • Quiet moments
  • Jake Gyllenhaal
  • Dandelion Yellow
  • HGTV
  • Vine references

The reason I wanted to start this blog is just to get my thoughts out there. I’ll mostly just be posting about current things that are going on, such as social media content, current memes, movies, music, or things that I’ve experienced or just want to talk about!

I want this blog to be a connection to others. Basically think of it as a one-on-one conversation that I’ll be having with you.
